Answer preview
Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a metabolic health condition resulting from poor insulin secretion by the pancreatic β-cells and abnormalities of the insulin-sensitive tissues to admit insulin. According to Banday et al. (2020), the dysfunctional pancreatic β-cells impair insulin secretion in the first phase of glucose stimulation, thus increasing glucose intolerance. In the second phase, the release of newly produced insulin gets impaired, leading to the accumulation of glucose in the β-cells. Hence, hyperglycemia acts as the central biomarker for T2DM.
