Correlational Vs Experimental Designs
You have been tasked to research the relationship between academic performance and studying either alone or in a group.
- How would you design the study if you were doing a correlational study?
- How would you design the study if you were doing an experimental study?
- Between these two designs which one would be the best method in this case? Why?
. Your initial post (your response to the topic) must contain a citation. It is your ideas supported by research. Please refer to the APA Power Point in the Start Here section of the classroom for information on proper formatting. There will be a deduction of 20 points for failure to cite a source within your initial post and to provide a reference at the end of your initial post.

Experimental research is done by using dependent and independent variables where one manipulates one or two independent variables and how they affect dependent variables. It uses a set of procedures to test a certain hypothesis (Grønlien, Christoffersen, Ringstad, Andreassen, & Lugo, 2021). If I were to do experimental research, I would first look at how the variables are related to each other before writing down a hypothesis. Then I would design an experimental procedure to manipulate the independent variable based on my hypothesis. Later, I would assign each subject a different variable and measure the dependent variables.
