Planning is essential, especially when an organization wishes to expand its operations into a foreign location. One of the critical aspects of the planning process revolves around assessments of a strategy’s upsides and downsides. From the discussion in the previous section of the paper, one can easily deduce that acquiring a European company is better than failing to do so. This choice has its set of upsides and downsides. One of the advantages of this decision is that the company will get access to immense up-to-date data to inform its decision-making. According to Hill et al. (2017), unlike other regional blocks, the EU has a comprehensive guide that provides real-time updates on the economic conditions, the political climate, existing laws and regulations, and the investment opportunities in member countries.

The concept of objectivity in the journalism industry should be interrogated to determine whether it is a myth. The rules of being secretive about one’s identity are a weapon to silence sexuality within the heteronormative newsroom culture. The culture of homonormative journalism is pervasive within this industry. Black LGBT journalists are expected to adjust their identity toward employment. Otherwise, being explicit about one’s self-identity is perceived as offensive and destabilizes job security. The marginalized gay and lesbian journalists are thus discouraged from bringing perspectives about their identity to the newsroom. The journalism entities comprise mainly white men, while a low membership is recorded of people of color and LGBT. Strategies to address discrimination based on race and sexuality are scrutinized. Minimal opportunities are created to include employment and networking of LGBT journalists. Interventions are made by leadership in journalism to improve the diversity of the workforce. However, other stations address the issue by avoiding topics related to the LGBT agenda. The best solution is to educate the newsroom personnel about LGBT diversity and discrimination. This strategy effectively eliminates discrimination and prejudice against marginalized LGBT journalists. Despite these efforts, there are no transgender or transexual journalists at the significant new network entities and affiliates.

Filmmakers in the WW1 era were affected by the government’s imposition to ban foreign films; this plight led to the birth of German expressionism, which they used in films to illustrate their dilemma as filmmakers. The director of the film Robert Riene successfully applies the elements of German expressionism in the film Cabinet of Doctor Caligari to create a horror film that the audience can relate with. The use of dark shadows and surreal imagery establishes a gothic horror atmosphere and creates characters who are depicted as dangerous.

Based on the film, the disorder was caused by head trauma due to the tragic accident in which Lucy was involved a year ago (Peter, 2004). That made her lose her long and short-term memory. Anterograde amnesia is caused by many reasons, such as Alzheimer’s disease, brain aneurysms, drugs and medication, head injuries such as traumatic bread injuries, and brain tumors. Memory loss is prevalent with these conditions because they affect specific areas of the brain, which makes it stop working. The disability model displayed in the film is the affirmation model of disability, described as “a non-tragic view of disability and impairment. This model is manifested since Lucy had all the physically attributed functioning, which made the neurologist believe that it would be best for Lucy to live within the hospital environment, where she could practice an art that is instrumental for her ability to live at least a high quality of life.

As intimated in the paper’s introductory section, the subject article analyzes the confusion surrounding who should develop accounting standards to regulate governmental accounting. According to O’Donoghue and Hardiman (1989), the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) was created in 1984. Furthermore, during its establishment, the Financial Accounting Foundation granted GASB the power to develop generally accepted accounting principles (GAAPs) for governmental entities. Despite having this authority, O’Donoghue and Hardiman (1989) lament that GASB has failed to fully use it. GASB only reacted after the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) released three standards aimed at governmental entities. According to O’Donoghue and Hardiman (1989), had the GASB failed to issue its standards, those issued by the FASB would have applied to governmental entities.

  • Morality in Jewish Holocaust Films
  • Although few people are unadulterated heroes or villains, historical dramas rarely acknowledge these ‘grey zones’ and instead offer moral absolutes. Thus, the traditional narrative binary opposition (Friend – Enemy) is mitigated in children’s movies without the need to convey traumatic memories through overly realistic war movies.

Jewish holocaust films hold a crucial place in cinematic history, providing a poignant medium to bear witness to one of the darkest chapters in human history. The Holocaust, a genocide campaign orchestrated by the Nazis and their collaborators between 1941 and 1945, led to the systematic extermination of approximately 6 million Jews and millions of others, including Roma people, LGBTQ+ individuals, people with disabilities, and political dissidents (Weissman, 2004). These films not only serve as a means of remembrance but also as powerful educational tools to ensure that future generations understand the horrors of the past and strive to prevent such atrocities from happening again. Within the genre of Jewish holocaust films, a notable and deeply significant category emerges the films from the perspective of the children.

Civil Rights Review

The Civil War ended slavery in the United States in 1865, but it did not end discrimination against African Americans in American society. There were many federal and state laws, as well as local ordinances, which addressed these issues to varying degrees. Discrimination, as well as “Jim Crow laws,” kept discrimination steady and alive against the African American community despite political progress. It was not until the Civil Rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s that massive nonviolent protests led to some groundbreaking legislation and numerous changes. It was not until the passage of the Civil Rights Act (1964) that segregation in public places ended, and employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin across the United States was banned.

The African American community was not alone in facing discrimination during this period. Gay men and lesbians were subject to discrimination as well. In 1969, at a New York City bar called Stonewall, the LGBT community fought back against hatred, and this is often credited with starting the country’s first LGBT Civil Rights movement. In 1977, Miami was one of the country’s first cities to protect individuals based on their “affectional preferences,” and an ordinance was passed by Ruth Shack to protect gay men and lesbians. However, a “backlash,” led by Anita Bryant, ensued and rolled back these legal protections. It was not until 1998 that the ordinance again passed, and in 2014 when it was modified to include those based on gender identity.

As an individual and a professional social worker, having a better understanding of LGBTQ history allows me to have a better understanding of the role of prejudice and discrimination in American culture over time. I have realized that the reinstated equal rights of the LGBTQ promoted ethical and professional behaviors in public and private entities by reinforcing equal opportunities in employment, housing, and social activities. I believe such measures promote inclusivity in workplaces and social events. In this case, minority groups, including the LGBTQ, get to enjoy their freedoms without the fear of losing jobs or housing due

The dual-concern theory, which was developed by Jane Mouton and Robert Blake, can also be used in this situation. The theory advocates that the parties involved in a conflict or potentially conflicting situation should care for their individual outcomes as well as the outcomes of the other parties involved. This is exactly what Lucia McBath and Rev. Rob Schenck did when Lucia was grieving her lost son but also used the chance to ensure no other parent experiences the same problem in the future. The reverend stood by her to achieve her goal, which was also a sacrifice for him to make for the common good of others. However, the dual-concern model is commonly criticized for several issues such as cultural biasness, heavy reliance on self-report, and its inability to adequately account for a linear or ongoing approach to the relationship among the involved parties.
