As demonstrated by McAleenan (2019), mass shootings undermine the country’s interior security and alter the political, economic, and people’s social life. While focusing more on the sociological impact, the Sandy Hook School domestic terrorism affected people, mostly community members in Newton, Connecticut, where the school was situated. Sociological implications address the cultural, social, and environmental aspects of society (Ozeren, Gunes, & Al-Badayneh, 2007). From the case, the terrorism act in the Newton community ruptured the social fabric and the inhabitant’s way of life. They no longer had confidence in the community’s security, and the social trauma, among the survivors endangered their educational, occupational, and social well-being. This means that such mass attacks prevent the community from enjoying social and cultural rights due to the instilled social trauma from the terrorizing effect. Hence, community members’ actions were razing down the educational institution and constructing a new one, which was a significant step for relieving their social trauma and improving their living environment (History Editors, 2012).

In the Puerto Ricans’ family values, being overweight is highly endowed since it signs wealth and health. According to Mattei et al. (2018), poor dietary habits creates a challenge for the nurse in advising this group of the importance of a diet plan to reduce health conditions like obesity. Additionally, they believe in family care; hence many consult the family and close friends for any health issues they may be experiencing before reaching out to a health professional. Therefore, this impacts the delivery of care since nurses once consulted need to be culturally sensitive to the advice the patient is given when offering professional care. In healthcare delivery, upholding patients’ cultural values is an essential practice.

Families in the Puerto Rican heritage are organized in the traditional patriarchal roles. The family can either be nuclear or extended, and two families can live in the same household.   However, there is a significant transformation towards egalitarian relationships. The needs of the family supersede those of individual members, and children are raised to have respect for adults. Emphasis is on family care over self-care. The family acts as a source of identity and support for individuals in response to physical and psychological healthcare needs (Przeworski, & Piedra, 2020). The cultural beliefs which are transmitted in the families influence their access to healthcare services. For instance, their emphasis is on curative healthcare and responds less to health promotion and prevention services.

Another factor for the separation of white and black feminists is that whites were outspoken compared to blacks. According to Breines (29), white women were outspoken in that the whites amplified some issues that were considered mainly nonissues by blacks[1]. Over the years, white feminists have focused on sexism in the Student Non-violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), a factor that black women at the time did not consider an issue. White women perceived the role they played in SNCC as worthless since they wanted to do other things apart from typing in the office. Black women were primarily contended in what they did as Breines (35) says that the majority of women in SNCC were uninterested in pursuing gender issues[2]. Culture played a vital role in the way women perceived themselves in SNCC. Whereas black women were raised to be independent-minded and outgoing, whites’ women had not been encouraged to develop their potential.

African Americans were treated badly during the demand for slaves. Historically, African ancestors who immigrated to the United States were the ones who helped build the America we know today, and were later called African Americans. These people worked as slaves in rich white people lands, such as cotton farms. Today, this would be considered as nonhuman like conditions as to that slavery is illegal.

The enslavement that African Americans underwent has made them vulnerable to racial prejudices. During the slavery period, enslaved African Americans were treated as inferior people. The slavery systems were designed to make the blacks entirely dependent on whites since they were prevented from learning to write and read. At the same time, their behavior and movements were restricted. The slave owners easily had their way sexually with enslaved women. Rebellious slaves were punished, and while slave marriages lacked a legal basis, slaves nevertheless married, and others managed to raise families. After Congress ended the slave trade, slave owners encouraged slave marriages to ensure a constant supply of slaves. The slave masters could sell slaves hence separating families as they wished. Even though slaves started revolts in the 19th century, a few were successful, while the majority were unsuccessful. Supporters of slavery interpreted the slavery revolts organized by African Americans as being barbaric, and this led many states in the South to strengthen the slave codes.

Additionally, Chavez’s advocacy efforts influence a citizen to make strategic choices and embracing behaviors that do not focus on personal gains. Making personal sacrifices should be a step that an engaged citizen should consider achieving the necessary change in society (Oldenquist, 1980). They become good examples to others since the positive outcomes achieved after the advocacy efforts become a motivator factor to more positive engagement in promoting morality in the community.

Like Chavez, ordinary citizens can become extraordinary moral agents of change once they realize that their loyalty to the community is the beginning of being activists of change. However, they need to be courageous to overcome hostility from influential people who do not embrace equality. Kluger et al. (2007) demonstrate that moral dilemmas arise when promoting good, but regardless, irrational thinking should not be an option. Instead, this should motivate ordinary citizens to identify more rational ways of promoting change.

Atomic bombs

In your opinion, what were the main reasons US President Harry Truman decided to use atomic bombs on Japan in August 1945? Do you agree or disagree with his decision? must be 3-4 pages double spaced

Answer preview

Truman portrayed his arrogance in failing to take the adverse effects in the aftermath seriously. As demonstrated in the 1945 Government’s Documents Stimson noted that he raised his concerns about the dangers of the weapon; however, Truman just laughed, saying that he understood (1). This was a morally repugnant deed, which raised questions regarding Truman’s leadership and misguided interests of the nation and international relations.  Moreover, the President knew that Japan did not have military prowess; therefore, excessive force was unjustified. The country had shown signs of surrendering before the 1945 bombing, which was evident in July. According to Blum the American planes could fly to Japan without experiencing barriers (2). Therefore, the lack of domestic consideration and good international relations was alarming in Truman’s actions, yet other measures such as having peace negotiations would have been implemented.

Book. Sternheimer, Karen (2013). Connecting Social Problems and Popular Culture: Why Media is Not the Answer, Second Edition. Westview Press. ISBN 081334723

Answer preview

The controversy on teen sexting has arisen because of the fear that teens are nowadays exposed to sexual content early in life. Televisions and movies are some of the media that are blamed for the sexual content that is responsible for the perceived increase in sexual activities among teenagers. Adults nowadays believe that teens are maturing faster, unlike in the past, and they are becoming sexually active before joining high school. According to Sternheimer (2013), while adults perceive teenagers are sexually maturing faster, teenagers involved in sexual activities has been decreasing over the past decades. Presently, popular culture has made sex a fashionable thing, and it is being blamed for early sexual maturity. Television programs are also accused of fueling early sexual maturity among teenagers because the shows have sexual content. However, the majority of these concerns by adults are unfounded, as many studies reject the assumptions made on the factors that catalyze early sexual maturity. In one survey that targeted teens

Part Two: Response on Thomas Paine’s “Common Sense”

Hi classmate, your post on Thomas Paine’s “Common Sense” is very informative. I am now aware that the document intended to encourage Americans to fight for their release from Britain’s authoritarian rule. Additionally, “Common Sense” argues the importance of Americans creating a democracy. Moreover, you have accurately indicated that Thomas Paine’s writing helped convince American colonists that they deserved to self-govern in 1776. Furthermore, you have shared several direct quotations from the reading that solidly support your argument, besides providing a reader with the first-hand experience on the essentiality of Paine’s call for independence writing. Therefore, your analysis is very in-depth and provides vital facts that advance the urgent need for “Common Sense” during the colonial era. I read the document you shared as reference and noted that Paine uses convincing words to incite Americans. For instance, he refers to the British government as a punisher and necessary evil (Tom Paine, line 5 Common Sense).
