Answer preview

I have taken several steps and aspire to do more to address these barriers. I am now more deliberate about listening to the rationale behind people’s actions, norms, and traditions before making conclusions. Keeping an open mind has made it much easier for me to interact with and accommodate different people peacefully. I am now talking to more people from different cultures, most of who I would have otherwise ignored and assumed we have nothing in common. Additionally, I have tried to come out of my cultural cocoon to look at different issues from the cultures of the people involved, and this has positively affected my actions and attitudes towards them.

As a nurse, patients’ education is very important because many of the leading causes of death in America are closely associated with unhealthy lifestyles. For instance, stroke, hypertension, lung disease, and many others. Based on research, counseling and patients’ education have helped provide patients with current information regarding certain lifestyles and their impact on their health. Nurse-patient education helps create trust and empowers patients to fully participate in their health care as they have sufficient information to make an informed decision regarding their health.

Cardiovascular system and lymphatic system

Choose a medical condition from the cardiovascular system and lymphatic system and explain the pathophysiology changes that may occur. What patient education would need to be included related to this disorder? Please add Citations and References.

Please add the topic of the discussion in the beginning

Answer preview

AIDS is a medical condition that affects the whole-body system by creating a deficiency of cellular immunity. Through this, the susceptibility of malignancies and neurological infections in the body increases. Gilroy (2020) states that HIV releases cellular immune deficiency that depletes the CD4+ cells, creating neoplastic processes and opportunistic viral/bacterial infections. In such cases, the required patient education is based on periodic counseling, which is significant for treatment purposes. Exercise and physiotherapy for those with fewer CD4 count cells are essential for patient education regarding this disorder. Lastly, nutrition education must also be included to keep the body system healthy and fit.

There are common mistakes that lead to plagiarism. One mistake that students make is forgetting to paraphrase the literature works they use in their studies. Copy and paste strategy of exact text is plagiarism, and it can be avoided when the content is paraphrased in a student’s own words, but the meaning should not be distorted. While paraphrasing academic content, it is critical to observe the “five consecutive word” rule (Thomas, 2018). According to Thomas (2018), when you have five consecutive words similar to another text, then you have committed plagiarism. In some aspects, their names used that can be hard to paraphrase and still maintain their meaning. To avoid the content being taken as plagiarized, the student can use quotations to present the information while citing the authors of the information. Despite paraphrasing the contents of one or different scholarly works, it is an academic ethic to cite the sources used to get the information as references at the end of the research work.

At times, urinary incontinence might result in a person experiencing some back pain (Dugger, 2018). However, the extent of the relationship between back pain and urinary incontinence is still getting explored to pinpoint, whether back pain leads to UI or urinary incontinence. This results in a patient experiencing back pain (Dugger, 2018). Decubitus ulcers are also excruciating, especially if they get infected or mishandled during dressing and treatment. In most cases, untreated pressure sores become open wounds, which might be quite painful when touched or exposed to stimuli.

Finally, the aspect of veracity, which includes confidentiality, truthfulness, and fidelity, is essential when caring for a patient about to die. The nurse-patient relationship is a close one, especially when the patient is about to die as they are highly dependent on the nurse. The transmission of STDs, mainly gonorrhea, chlamydia, and syphilis, through oral, vaginal, and anal sexual activities, has been surging. According to the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County (DOH Miami-Dade) (2019), in a population of 100,000, there were 652 persons with STDs between 2015 and 2017. These rates in Miami were higher than in Florida State, whereby in a population of 100,000, there were 649.2 persons with the diseases. When looking at HIV/AIDS, the high rates of infection are evident in men as a result of anal sex. Also, transmission through the sharing of needles in drug use increases the infection rate. As indicated by the University of Miami Hospital and Clinics (2019), the incidence rate value of 43.4 in HIV infections and 14.6 in AIDS, were classified as the worst rating. An incident rate of a value of not more than 11.6 in HIV and 5.7 in AIDS was classified as commendable performance.  Hence, this shows a need for improvement in reducing these numbers.

IOM Summary of Four Messages and Significance to Nursing Practice

Answer preview

As a result of careful considerations, the committee developed four main messages that showed the recommendations presented in the report. The first message outlines the need to modify practice. It explains the need for nurses to fully practice according to their education and training (Mihdawi et al. 2020). The second message states the need to modify education. It outlines the importance of nurses achieving high educational levels and training via a well-updated system that maintains an absolute academic program. The third message describes the need to modify leadership. Nurses should work together with other health care professionals in modifying health care in the U.S. The fourth message outlined why better information is required in the health care workforce. For effective planning of a health care workforce, better ways of gathering information and a better data infrastructure are required (Mihdawi et al. 2020). This report emphasizes the establishment of leadership programs that improve the capacity of nurses to develop change and improve health care services by generating opportunities for improvement in education and profession.
