The transmission of STDs, mainly gonorrhea, chlamydia, and syphilis, through oral, vaginal, and anal sexual activities, has been surging. According to the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County (DOH Miami-Dade) (2019), in a population of 100,000, there were 652 persons with STDs between 2015 and 2017. These rates in Miami were higher than in Florida State, whereby in a population of 100,000, there were 649.2 persons with the diseases. When looking at HIV/AIDS, the high rates of infection are evident in men as a result of anal sex. Also, transmission through the sharing of needles in drug use increases the infection rate. As indicated by the University of Miami Hospital and Clinics (2019), the incidence rate value of 43.4 in HIV infections and 14.6 in AIDS, were classified as the worst rating. An incident rate of a value of not more than 11.6 in HIV and 5.7 in AIDS was classified as commendable performance. Hence, this shows a need for improvement in reducing these numbers.
