Answer preview

The introduction of evidence-based practice (EBP) in the health sector revolutionized the industry by introducing concrete procedures for decision making that promote accountability. As health professionals, nurses are expected to use EBP for their benefit and the patient’s well-being. There are several reasons why nurses need to incorporate EBP in their daily routines. One is that EBP allows nurses to remain more conscious of the patient’s needs. According to Storey, Wagnes, LaMothe, Pittman, Cohee & Newhouse (2019), EBP incorporates research, clinical expertise and patient preferences. When using EBP, nurses are challenged to understand the patients’ values, beliefs, and attitudes towards appropriate treatments, which helps them narrow down to the best approach to use when caring for different patients.
