One of the weaknesses of the Florida Health Insurance Exchange regards the restriction to the control of the state regardless of the financial challenges it experiences. The exchange was developed under the guidelines of the Affordable Care Act, which is a federal policy. This means that many of its key provisions and regulations were already dictated and pre-developed by the federal government (Chow, 2022). This loss of state autonomy might have prevented Florida’s capacity to tailor the exchange to its precise desires and precise challenges. Secondly, the initial implementation of the exchange faced significant political resistance, and this made Florida decide not to expand Medicaid as it was the goal of ACA (Chow, 2022). This choice caused a coverage gap because several low-earning people were ineligible for Medicaid but also failed to qualify for sponsored medical health insurance via the exchange.
