Nurses play an essential role in the administration of care to older adults. These patients deal with various psychological issues, affecting and contributing to their health and well-being. Psychological factors like anxiety, poor relationships, stress, and social isolation can increase an older adult’s likelihood of suffering from ailments such as stroke or hypertension (Donelan et al., 2019). The complicated and multifactorial nature of the psychosocial issues makes them challenging for nurses to identify. For instance, the presence of physical illnesses can prevent the identification of these issues (Donelan et al., 2019). Despite this, nurses can overcome such a challenge by performing holistic assessments when interacting with elderly patients (Donelan et al., 2019). These assessments will allow nurses to pay attention to the patient’s psychosocial issues and somatic conditions. By doing this, nurses will identify all the patient’s needs, allowing the nurse to provide high-quality and safe care (Donelan et al., 2019). Nurses should also take an active educational role when caring for older adults. Elderly patients will often take numerous medications to deal with the functionality impairment occasioned by biological changes
