Nightingale is one of the influential figures in modern nursing. She introduced the idea of training nurses before they join the workforce. She started school, where nurses could train and gain experience. However, some nurses think that Nightingale’s contribution is limiting the development of the nursing field.  It is because she discouraged the registration of nurses and mental health nurses as part of the profession and discourages nurses’ subordination. According to Masters (2020), Nightingale wanted a healthcare system where nurses work under the supervision of physicians. She also wanted to restrict nurses from participating in certain health departments like mental health.
