CCB are blood pressure medications that help prevent calcium from entering the heart muscles and arteries because it makes the heart contract more strongly. Blocking calcium help give space for the blood muscles to relax and open hence slowing the functioning and lowering the pressure in the blood (Semenzato, Botton, Drouin, Baricault, & Vabre, et al., (2021), The medication is also prescribed for patients with chest pains. CCB is in two categories, the short-acting ones work more quickly, but their effects last for only a few hours, while it is the opposite for the long-acting medications, which work slowly but produce a long-lasting effect.
