Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental or psychiatric condition in people because of traumatic events such as a fatal accident, terrorism, sexual violence, rape, natural calamity, and war. Symptoms of PTSD include distress, negative memories, withdrawal, flashbacks, and avoidance (Martin et al., 2016). Usually, signs of PTSD manifest within three months of the distressful event.  The event may have happened or maybe threatening to happen. The memories of a traumatic event overwhelm the brain, harming a person’s physical and mental health (Weathers, 2018). This research paper aims to discuss the meaning of PTSD, statistics, diagnosis, physiological responses, maladaptive patterns, and treatment and management of PTSD.
