Clinical research uses both qualitative and quantitative research sampling strategies based on the phenomena of interest. Qualitative and quantitive sampling strategies are different. Quantitative research sampling strategies refers to methods used to identify a person’s probability of being selected in the sample for data collection and guarantees equal chances of selection to all participant. Qualitative research sampling strategies, on the other hand, refer to techniques used to recruit participants for data collection and don’t guarantee equal chances of selection for each subject (Elfil and Negida, 2017). Both the probability sampling strategies (Quantitive) and non-probability sampling techniques provide the required data based on the phenomena of interest in nursing research. Snowball sampling, convenience sampling, and judgmental sampling are the most common qualitative sampling strategies, while stratified random sampling, clustered sampling, and simple sampling are the common quantitive research sampling strategies.(313 words)
