Answer preview
The success of the healthcare system heavily depends on the wellness of the economy. The changes in the economy have both positive and negatives on the country’s healthcare system. In the US, states have taken the initiative to improve health access to all patients regardless of income levels. Most of the country’s states are making health system reform and policy innovation that encourage more efficient and effective health services and improve Americans’ health. The studies show that the US is the country with the most expensive health system. Yet, it is not the healthiest country than other countries like France, Sweden, Norway, New Zealand, Germany, the Netherlands, Canada, Australia, and the UK and other OECD countries. Compared to all the countries mentioned above, American ranks last or near last when health indicators like life expectancy, infant mortality, access, and healthcare efficiency are evaluated. Although the US has made significant progress in some areas over the years, including reducing heart disease, stroke, cancer, and motor vehicles, there is still much to be done. Compared to the previous years, life expectancy in the US has improved, where it is all-time high 81 years for women and 76.2 years for men (Burke et al., 2017). Also, the US is recording a decline in smoking cases and several care-acquired infections. Massachusetts is one of the US states that have made significant healthcare reforms to improve affordability and quality health services delivery.
