I have witnessed fellow college students engage in binge drinking, mainly at house parties. IT poses similar effects to alcoholism since, after some time, most of them are usually blacked out. In the first year, most juniors encounter challenges when it comes to socializing. Therefore, to fit in, they feel pressured and compelled to join their peers in binge drinking. The act is mainly perceived to be fun and harmless. The activity slowly progresses and occurs regularly, resulting in alcoholism. Once the feeling of loneliness becomes overwhelming as I have witnessed among college students, they engage in heavy binge drinking to cope with depression. Other factors among college students attributed to high alcohol consumption over a single period are overcoming personal insecurities and fears (Wrye and Pruitt, 2017).
