While addressing the growing population issue, the patient-doctor population is of concern. According to Alluhidan et al. (2020), KSA’s population is likely to increase from 34.8 million, with an added value of five million by 2025 and an ultimate 54.7 million by 2050. While the government spends the greatest percentage on health, accounting for 4.16% as of 2015, the shortage of healthcare professionals is worrying. So far, the number of physicians is 9.4 per 10,000 population (Alluhidan et al., 2020). This is the lowest number among the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations recorded between 2005 to 2012. Although the physician number increased to 24.9 between 2007 and 2013, the low share of physicians in the projected population alters healthcare access greatly compared to the current situation.
