Answer preview
During the first two stages of syphilis, a sing injection of Benzathine penicillin G can easily cure syphilis. According to CDC, three doses of long-acting Benzathine penicillin G are needed each every week for latent syphilis. The three doses prevent syphilis from developing to the tertiary stage and causing any harm to the vital body organs and systems. Patients under treatment should avoid having sexual intercourse with new partners unless the sores are completely healed. Patients who do not use or are allergic to penicillin are given different antibiotics, which include ceftriaxone and doxycycline. Neurosyphilis may require a brief hospital stay and daily doses of penicillin through the veins or intravenously. One of the most common syphilis side effects of syphilis treatment is the Jarisch-Herxheimer Reaction (JHR) which is experienced by about 30% of syphilis patients under treatment (Arando et al., 2018). JHR causes fever, skin rash, chills, headache, gastrointestinal symptoms, and joint or muscle pain, which can be mild or severe.
