IOM Summary of Four Messages and Significance to Nursing Practice

Answer preview

Rapid changes are experienced daily in the world, including changes in languages and epidemiological concepts, which have a great impact on patient care. These changes are expected to continue, and nurses have to prepare and be updated on the increasingly diverse populations of patients. Despite knowing how to prevent and cure diseases such as cancer, the effects of the disease keep changing, and more deadly types are also coming up; hence nurses should update their level of education and research to be more equipped in dealing with diverse diseases. Additionally, nurses’ understanding of different diverse cultures improves the relationship between patients and nurses. This will aid in improving their patient-care services and understanding how well to treat and care for different patients.
