Answer preview
Truman portrayed his arrogance in failing to take the adverse effects in the aftermath seriously. As demonstrated in the 1945 Government’s Documents Stimson noted that he raised his concerns about the dangers of the weapon; however, Truman just laughed, saying that he understood (1). This was a morally repugnant deed, which raised questions regarding Truman’s leadership and misguided interests of the nation and international relations. Moreover, the President knew that Japan did not have military prowess; therefore, excessive force was unjustified. The country had shown signs of surrendering before the 1945 bombing, which was evident in July. According to Blum the American planes could fly to Japan without experiencing barriers (2). Therefore, the lack of domestic consideration and good international relations was alarming in Truman’s actions, yet other measures such as having peace negotiations would have been implemented.
