Answer preview

S is having a borderline personality disorder because she is unable to control her moods. She has not been able to maintain a stable relationship with other people, including her daughter. She feels like everyone is against her, and she does not submit to being the cause of the things she is going through. As a nurse, I would help S by implementing therapeutic communication as well as the principles of cognitive-behavioral therapy. For therapeutic communication, I would first listen to the patient’s claims and try to create a common ground by agreeing to her in order to support her emotionally. When it comes to cognitive behavioral therapy, the principles to consider are access, mediate, and change hypothesis (Dobson & Dobson, 2018). Therefore, the first step is to assess the patient in order to access information regarding her issues. The second step is to reason with her and find a solution, which she would implement during the last step of change.
