- Discuss evidence-based research on applicability of each theory and treatment.
- Present research on the pros and cons of each theory to specific populations.
- What does current research reveal to be the level of applicability of your chosen theories to various cultures? Which cultures are best served by these chosen theories according to current research?
- Create an original case that exemplifies, through culture as well as psychopathology, the findings of your research (this should be 1 – 1½ pages of the 8 pages in this section).

The emergence of the counselling and psychotherapy field was intended to address social challenges encountered by society. According to Etherington (2017), counselling and psychotherapy are two schools that recently emerged from the field of psychology. Clarke, & Braun, (2018) highlight that the counselling and psychotherapy terms are used interchangeably, yet they are two different concepts with a different meaning. Despite both terms emerging from the field of psychology, both fields specialize in different areas. Etherington, (2017), elaborates that it is always essential for the learners to understand similarities and differences between the terms. In general, counselling school focuses on equipping learners with simple skills that help them address issues and situation like grief, addiction, and others. Compared to the psychotherapy, counselling generally takes a short period of time may be weeks or a few months. On the other hand, psychotherapy school equips the learner with skills that help them address issues experienced in the past but are affecting the patients current mental or behavioural state. Clarke,& Braun, (2018) echo that psychotherapy offers a solution to patients who encountered some challenges or issues in the past but are causing the current problem. For instance, Psychotherapy is mostly applied to address mental or behavioural issues like post-traumatic stress disorder, depression and others. Therefore, this article aims at identifying and explaining similarities and differences between counselling and psychotherapy theories. It will also discuss the evidence-based research on the applicability each approach and treatment. Also, the pros and cons of each treatment will be explained. Finally, the relevance of the two theories in a different culture will be evaluated.
