Answer preview

An effective performance appraisal is beneficial to both the employer and employees. It creates a link between employees’ expectations and how employees’ efforts contribute toward achieving overall organizational goals and objectives. When employees align their goals with organizations’ expectations, their productivity increases due to prioritized work. Training and development are achieved through the performance appraisal process, which identifies the training needs of employees. Performance reviews help in identifying weaknesses in employees’ performance and crafting the best training and development techniques for improving their skills and strengths (DeNisi & Murphy, 2017). The employers must communicate feedback to employees in a manner that employees understand the role of performance appraisal in identifying lacks in their skills and providing effective training and development opportunities.
