Prisons also have psychological/ counseling programs. These programs benefit inmates because they challenge prisoners’ antisocial attitudes, rationalizations that support criminal conduct, externalization of blame, and failure to confront the harm they committed (JRank, 2022). By addressing the root cause of the inmates’ criminality, the chances of inmates committing crimes after being released are pretty-low (JRank, 2022). Generally, all inmates should be given a chance to enroll and take part in these programs. This is because work programs will allow them to develop vital skills they can use after being released, while counseling programs address the underlying factors contributing to inmates’ criminality.
