Answer previewJohn Lewis was a committed civil rights leader and activist. His activities and advocacy on the need for equality in America will be forever enshrined in our memories. The former Democrat Congressman is one of the most renowned black civil rights activists in America. He is widely known for his role as the leader of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). Throughout his childhood, his experiences of racial segregation shaped his mindset and fueled his thirst for change. His true passion for social justice was shown as he physically threw himself into rallies and demonstrations. The actions have endeared him to many with a bold civil, political, and even popular culture president. As Oprah Winfrey posits, Lewis’s dedication to fighting for change has culminated in many social welfare and justice developments (OWN 2020, July 19). As a politician, his drive-in pushing for favorable policies in healthcare matters has been quite influential.
