Management focuses on controlling, directing, organizing, and planning resources in the organization in order to achieve the goals. Traditional methods of management used a trial and error approach to perform management functions. However, traditional methods of management are not reliable for the success of an organization. In the 1880s, Frederick Taylor came up with a new approach to management that was not based on personal instincts (Oberoi, 2016). This approach was the scientific management that analyses organizational functions to come up with ideas for improving efficiency and productivity. Scientific management was first used in the US and later spanned across all corners of the world. Due to the rise competition, companies are using strategies to make their operations unique from their competitors. Today, strategic management has been used to improve scientific management in order to gain a competitive advantage.(679words)
