Answer preview

Conflict theory is a sociopolitical theory brought into existence by Karl Max. This theory generally posits that society is in a state of conflict due to competition for limited resources (Dukes, 2018). Furthermore, the maintenance of social order is predominantly through power and domination instead of conformity and consensus. Marx’s theory emphasized the conflict between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat (Dukes, 2018). Each of these groups is comprised of individuals with shared interests and a certain level of ownership of property. The bourgeoisie holds the most wealth and means of production, while the proletariat comprises the poor and working-class individuals (Dukes, 2018). Marx postulated that the bourgeoisie, the minority, will use their power and influence to oppress the majority proletarian class.
