Alcoholism, also known as alcohol dependence or use disorder, refers to a situation whereby a person consumes so much alcohol to the extent that their bodies become dependent on alcohol to function normally (Legg, 2018). Once this happens, consuming alcohol becomes unavoidable for such a person, and it becomes a vital part of their existence. In line with this, alcoholics will continue with their drinking habits irrespective of whether the cost of such behavior to themselves, their families, and those around them. Courtesy of their dependence on alcohol, more often than not, such individuals end up losing their jobs or even destroying the relationships they have with the people around them (Legg, 2018). The exact causes of alcohol use disorder are still challenging for health care experts to pinpoint.
