You have learned a lot about different approaches to studying migration in this lesson and the readings. Compare and contrast two of the models that you learned about this week. Which of the approaches did you find most compelling or useful, and why?

The most useful theoretical approach to migration between the two is the historical-structural approach. It is because changes in the global economy are the leading factor for migration. The socio-economic relations in one’s home country will compel them to migrate to economically stable nations. Also, the unequal distribution of political power is another critical reason for human displacement. The expansion of global capitalism has motivated migrants to move to wealthier and more privileged Western countries (Massey, 1999). The push-pull theory is driven by individuals who seek capitalism and labor in advanced nations, which forms part of globalization.
