Thirdly, Rick also incorporates short films and pictures of actual events taken during the reins of the involved leaders, making one have a clear picture of what was happening. One major issue in the movie that relates to what is in chapter 34 is the concept of fascism. According to Stanley (2020), fascism is a government led by an individual who forcefully and violently dictates rules to suppress opposition and criticism. The leader controls all aspects of a country, including the economy and industries, and promotes nationalism and, in most cases, racism. Some of the leaders identified in the film that pushed for and practiced fascism include Hitler in Germany and Mussolini in Italy. One of the major lessons from the movie, as identified by Rick, is that capitalizing on fear can easily lead a society astray through fascism and that we should not take freedom and democracy for granted.
