Answer preview

Health information technology (HIT) refers to the use of computer systems to process and manage health information. The technology deals with the capture of health records, storage, retrieval, and sharing of processed health information. HIT has multiple applications in clinical practice. First, it provides a platform for storing health records electronically through electronic health records (EHR). Traditionally, clinicians used physical files to preserve health records about patients. Today, HIT allows clinicians to capture patients’ data on a computer system and store that information for future reference. Therefore, it becomes easy to retrieve patient information because the clinician only queries a database instead of wasting time looking for a physical file, which is not easy to find.
