Answer preview
Critics have argued that the main driver towards globalization is due to the effects of global neoliberalism. Global neoliberalism itself is a theory that advocates for the maximization of individual economic freedom. Thus, eliminating government-imposed restrictions on the movement of goods, capital, and people across international borders (Navarro 2020). In understanding contemporary globalization, mastering world-systems is vital. World system analysis involves comprehension of social changes as based on geohistorical systems. The relationship between globalization and world-system analysis is broad. Though there are similarities between the two, there still exist rejections in both, which are also crucial. Globalization advocates, on the one hand, treat world-system analysts as the pioneers behind the global study. But reject the framework put by the systems while world-system analysts, on the other hand, view globalization advocates as ‘Johnny-come-lately,’ thus rejecting their market faith.
