As intimated in prior parts of the paper, employees in today’s working environment work with colleagues from different cultural backgrounds. Generally, culture denotes an integrated system of values, behaviors, beliefs, and communication patterns shared by members of a particular social group (Jain & Pareek, 2019). Such a phenomenon means that team members will have different communication styles and decision-making approaches. The underlying cultural differences in a global team can adversely affect communication between team members. For instance, different team members will have varying perceptions of time management, personal space, and symbols depending on their culture. Poor comprehension of different cultures, particularly how they influence team members’ conduct, and decision-making, will make it challenging for them to work together and complete a project (Jain & Pareek, 2019). Besides this, the underlying cultural differences and the communication challenges they bring about often lead to conflicts (Jain & Pareek, 2019).
