This diagnostic tool came into existence courtesy of the work done by Katherine Briggs and her daughter Isabel Myers in the 1940s and 1950s. Furthermore, when coming up with the assessment, Briggs and Myers borrowed heavily from Carl Jung’s theory on personality types (King & Mason, 2020). Myers and Briggs were not only fascinated by this theory but also believed that it could have extensive applications in the real world. During the Second World War, Briggs and Myers started researching and coming up with indicators they could use to comprehend personal differences (King & Mason, 2020). When doing this, Myers and Briggs that helping individuals understand their personalities will go a long way in assisting them in selecting jobs suited for their personalities. Due to this, people would get a chance to live happier and healthier lives (King & Mason, 2020). Courtesy of the research done, Myers came up with a pen-and-pencil version of the inventory. Once this was done, Myers and Briggs started using the assessment on friends and family members.
