The open letter alluded to in the previous section of the paper exposed some of the challenges employees were facing at the company. The anonymous senior-level employee started with an opening statement letting Lazaridis and Jim know that they were forced to write the letter because the company’s culture does not allow employees to voice their concerns and suggestions openly and freely without worrying about the career-limiting impacts of such a move. After the opening statement, the anonymous employee identified eight issues the company needs to address. These include focusing on end-user experience, recruiting senior software leaders, cutting projects to their basics, investing in developers, improving product marketing, employee accountability, treating customers and the press with humility, and engaging and interacting with employees.
