Other scholars such as John Locke advanced a concept referred to as tabula rasa. The central premise under this concept is that the human mind starts as a blank slate, and thus, everything a person knows is influenced by their environment and experiences (Bates et al., 2018). This is a position taken by empiricists, who posit that most if not all behaviors and attributes are learned through conditioning. John B.
