Nevertheless, recently, it’s been proposed that the image represents Mary, who occupies this honorable position beside God, so the infant beside her is Jesus. The positioning of God’s hands on the infant supports this viewpoint (Armstrong, 2019). According to Catholic doctrine, communion is Christ’s body, and such theological concepts would indeed be represented in this artwork (Steinberg, 2019). If the latter view is accurate, Adam’s creation is inextricably connected to Jesus’s future arrival, who arrives to redeem man following Adam’s transgression.
Overall, the picture has many characteristics of Michelangelo’s painting technique, including Adam’s and God’s reclining positions, the application of solid and twirling forms, as well as the illustration of characters that seem to be sculptures (Steinberg, 2019). The painting is considered one of the greatest works of Renaissance history, even though it had been darkened by hundreds of years of fumes. After its cleansing was completed in 1989, the transformation was astounding; what had previously been black and dreary became vibrant (Armstrong, 2019). We now have a far more excellent grasp of Michelangelo’s palette and the universe he created, which is wonderfully portrayed throughout the Sistine Chapel’s ceiling.
