Essential oils are extracts from different types of plants that have beneficial elements to the body. Essential oils are extracted by pressing or steaming plant parts such as leaves, stems, fruits, or flowers to end up with plant elements that produce fragrance. Essential oils have been used to produce scented products like lotions and body washes that people use more often. Apart from producing fragrances that are appealing to the nose, essential oils have therapeutic benefits in both homeopathy and aromatherapy. The human body responds to the essential oil in the following ways. First, the brain absorbs scent molecules contained in essential oils through the olfactory nerves. When essential oil molecules find their way into the brain, they get into the limbic system and affect how people respond to emotions. It also affects people’s behaviors and long-term memory. Also, when an essential oil is applied to the skin, it helps the muscles to relax. Therefore, essential oils are used as natural substances to improve health and remedy illnesses.
