  • After watching the video above, how do you think the idea that the photographers were given shaped their pictures? What are the differences between the photographs?
  • What inaccurate perceptions do people often have of you? Why are people prone to making these perceptual mistakes? What perceptual mistakes concerning other people do you find yourself making?
  • Read “Prejudiced thoughts run through all our minds — the key is what we do with them” and reflect on your bias. How can we do to improve our perceptions? How can we make our bias less limited?
Answer preview

My bias is gender-based because I believe that women should not perform specific roles in society. My family and religious background have significantly shaped how I perceive gender. A woman should be submissive, and the man is the head of the house. However, there is not the case since there are families where the father is a stay at home dad while the mother is the breadwinner. I can improve my perception by first understanding my prejudicial thoughts because they impact biased actions. I can make my bias limited by connecting with the opinions of other people. Acknowledging and owning the pain of being judged will limit bias since hurting others goes against one’s values (Hayes, 2020). Also, committing to change helps to minimize the impact of prejudice on others. Therefore, motivation to listen more and step back for others to contribute helps express compassion and avoid bias.

However, social media has raised many problems that employees and employers must address. For example, social media has caused role-blurring, where workplaces’ activities coincide with personal activities (Offer, 2014). It is because people find themselves receiving calls from the organization or coworkers during their free time, making it hard to completely separate working time and personal time. Social media use has also created chaos between supervisors and employees, especially when employees participate more in social media than the organization’s tasks (Charoensukmongkol, 2014). From these problems, it is clear the employees need to communicate more with other people, while employers need more commitment from employees.

E-mails are a common form of communication medium used by many companies. Supervisors use it to communicate with their subordinates, and employees use it to pass across information to their colleagues. When using e-mails, employees should always ensure they send and copy it to the right people, since not everybody is purview to every aspect of a company’s operations (Suchan, 2016). A misplaced e-mail can cause extensive damage not only within the organization but also outside the company. The language used when communicating is also important. Companies are increasingly diversifying their human capital, employing people from different races and gender. With this in mind, employees should always use the formal language adopted within the organization and not their individual or native languages. Doing this prevents some employees from feeling left out, which might hamper their ability to interact and work with their colleagues.

Communication and controversy

In this assignment, you will research current events involving communication and controversy within educational organizations and explain how you, as an instructional leader, would have handled the controversies.

Research two current events involving communication and controversy within educational organizations. Specifically examine the role of technology in communicating the controversies.

Describe the events, the communication that took place, and why the communication was effective/positive or ineffective/negative. How did social, economic, technological, and logistical factors impact the communication?

As an instructional leader, how would you have handled the controversies? Describe how what you learned can be applied in (1) an educational environment and (2) as an instructional leader.

Requirements: 5 to 7 page

Answer preview
As an instructional leader, there are different ways I could have handled this controversy differently and avoided shaming my students. Instructional leaders, especially if they are principals, are responsible for ensuring they provide the teaching staff and support staff within the institutions with the requisite resources to allow them to cater to their students’ needs. By introducing a lunch shaming policy, the school was doing the opposite of this, because doing so creates an inhospitable learning environment. To avoid this, the principal should have drafted letters to all the affected families, informing them that they intend to withhold offering meals to their children for failure to pay the required meals. By doing this, parents will be aware of what is going on, and as such, contact the school to find ways of paying their debts, even if it would be through flexible and intermittent payments. Such collaboration between the school and parents might have helped avoid the problems brought about by the policy (Koschmann, 2012). Alternatively,

The liberals believe that the government should promote equality and liberty in the United States. They are considered to be on the left side of the political spectrum. From the liberals’ point of view, the January 6th Capitol riot was immoral and a betrayal to the democracy of the United States. Liberals supported Joe Biden, which means that they were happy about his victory. Liberals believed that the election was transparent. Besides, Liberals had no problem with Trump’s claim of election irregularities because they did not react once he made the statement. They only wanted Trump to follow legal procedures to declare the election fraudulent.

Liberals thought that conservatives were betraying democracy because they did not follow the right procedures to channel their grievances. They were supposed to present evidence that the election was not fair instead of rioting. Democracy means that everyone has the right to be heard. That democracy was shown to conservatives when the court demonstrated that it was ready to address their issues. Some votes were even recounted to make sure that there were no irregularities in the election process. However, conservatives went ahead and invaded the Capitol to interfere with the victory of the elected person. That is not a democracy, and the Capitol riot should not have happened.

When evaluating the potential of a relationship, three main things are essential. Firstly, communication is a core aspect of any association, whether in professional or personal settings. It is a crucial quality to enhance the functionality of a relationship. Secondly, emotional engagement is a vital attribute for my relationships. I value this trait because it allows those involved to be openly express their feelings without fear of judgment. Love is very expensive, and we should not take it for granted. The fact that no one can equate material things for love resonates with me (Albom, n.d.). Today, people have invested in material things and forgot about love. For example, parents are no longer having enough time to associate with their children because they spend a lot of time at work. As a result, children grow up without parental love that exposes them to abusive love from outsiders. Once parents learn that they have not been showing enough love to their children, they try to reverse whatever had happened using money. For example, some children may end up joining gangs to experience the love their parents denied them. To reverse that, parents try to pay for rehabilitation services so that their children can change their behaviors. However, rehabilitation cannot make children experience the love that parents have not offered to them. Therefore, parents must accept that love cannot be replaced by material things. They should take responsibility and show their children the love they deserve.

Additionally, family members opted for alternative methods of burial, especially cremation. According to Van Overmeire and Bilsen (2020), the Texas funeral service commission (TFSC) had 10% cremations before the coronavirus pandemic and 90% cremation upon the virus’s onset. More families opted for cremation as it was the easiest way to bury their loved ones. Cremation does not involve embalming of the body and eliminates the search for a burial site. The NFDA stated that there is currently no law that forces families to cremate their loved ones’ remains, although families should check on the state and local laws when choosing between burials or cremation. Concerning green burials, the CDC states that green burials continue, although at a lower rate and through online platforms, yet there is no risk of being in the same room with the dead body of a loved one provided everyone maintains social distance. Natural burial cemeteries have witnessed a significant drop in green burials as more people turn to cremation.

Even though every person can get the disease, certain categories of people should watch out for the virus because they have a greater probability of developing complications resulting from the acquisition of the influenza virus (Baselga-Moreno et al., 2019). Unlike the rest of the people, individuals falling under this category cannot afford to keep off flu medication and hope the virus disappears. The fact that they have a higher chance of developing complications means they have to seek medical intervention as soon as they begin showing symptoms. Young children who are yet to hit the five years mark and those bellow six months are included in this list. Due to their weakened immune system, older adults are also at risk of developing complications once they get infected. Pregnant women and people with chronic illnesses also fall under this category. Finally, Native Americans have a higher chance of developing flu complications
