I would recommend an herbal supplement for L.L before taking prescription medicine. Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is a non-cancerous condition that mainly attacks aging men (Langan, 2019). Its common feature is the enlargement of the prostate and infection in the lower urinary tract. I would recommend herbal supplements because they can be used to control pain and subsequently shrink the prostate. The alternative treatment is surgery, which can prove to be invasive to the patients. Also, herbal supplements can be accessed with ease at a less costly price. Lastly, herbal supplements would offer L.L a chance to evaluate the drug’s effects with no fear of adverse side effects.

State Laws vs Federal Laws

Discussion

State Laws vs Federal Laws and peer responses

The Human resource is an integral department in any organization. The department is vital in addressing the employees‘ issues within an organization, and it acts as a link between the management and general employees (Lindsay, Cagliostro, Leck, Shen, & Stinson, 2019). Since its primary function is to address the employees’ interests, the personnel under this department must be well conversant with the laws and regulations that govern employment. Even though an institution may have a legal department, the HR departments need to be equally equipped with employment law dictates to avoid instances of illegalities between the employer and the employee (Burkhauser, Schmeiser, & Weathers, 2012).

One important role of an HR professional is to distinguish state laws from federal laws.

  • To find information on state laws and federal laws use resources like the Shapiro library and World at Work “Newsline,” found in the Resource Center at http://www.worldatwork.org.
  • Research articles related to HR responsibilities in the implementation of state laws that are distinguishable from federal Laws. (e.g., right-to-work, benefits like vacation pay, minimum wage, and others).
  • Identify a particular federal law and related state law.

What advice concerning these laws would you provide if you were an HR professional advising top executives who had employees in different states and possibly other countries?

Case Study Module

Instructions: Read the following case study and answer the reflective questions. Please provide rationales for your answers. Make sure to provide a citation for your answers.

CASE STUDY: Family Member with Alzheimer’s Disease: Mark and Jacqueline

Mark and Jacqueline have been married for 30 years. They have grown children who live in another state. Jacqueline’s mother has moved in with the couple because she has Alzheimer’s disease. Jacqueline is an only child and always promised her mother that she would care for her in her old age. Her mother is unaware of her surroundings and often calls out for her daughter Jackie when Jacqueline is in the room. Jacqueline reassures her mother that she is there to help, but to no avail.

Jacqueline is unable to visit her children on holidays because she must attend to her mother’s daily needs. She is reluctant to visit friends or even go out to a movie because of her mother’s care needs or because she is too tired. Even though she has eliminated most leisure activities with Mark, Jacqueline goes to bed at night with many of her caregiving tasks unfinished. She tries to visit with her mother during the day, but her mother rejects any contact with her daughter. Planning for the upcoming holidays seems impossible to Mark, because of his wife’s inability to focus on anything except her mother’s care.

Jacqueline has difficulty sleeping at night and is unable to discuss plans even a few days in advance. She is unable to visit friends and is reluctant to have friends visit because of the unpredictable behavior of her mother and her need to attend to the daily care.

Reflective Questions

1. How do you think this situation reflects Jacqueline’s sense of role performance?

2. How do you think that Jacqueline may be contributing to her own health?

Role performance refers to how a person can express the role given to them. People can either express high or low performance when it comes to exercising their role. Low performance means that a person cannot fulfill what is required of them. On the other hand, high performance is attributed to a person’s ability to exercise their roles to completion. Based on the Alzheimer’s disease case study, Jacqueline’s role performance is low. She is required to care for her children and husband. However, her mother has Alzheimer’s disease, which means that she has to provide and care for her sick mother.

Nursing theory is a structured idea that applies a systematic view of nursing practices. Nursing theories are crucial in modern nursing because they help learners study various nursing concepts. According to Masters (2020), all nursing theories have something in common because they all explain the four metaparadigm concepts: person, environment, health, and nursing. A person refers to a single patient or family seeking healthcare services. Environment refers to external factors that affect human health, and nursing covers the nursing practices available for people with unfavorable health conditions. This paper focuses on one nursing theorist, Florence Nightingale, and her environmental theory.

National service refers to either voluntary or compulsory conscription into a program designed in a military-like fashion (Ryssday, 2008). Once a person gets into this program, they undergo training for a specified period before getting allocated duties to perform. National service programs predominantly target the youth, requiring them to engage in public service for a year or longer depending on a country’s laws. For a long time, national service programs have been part of some country’s defense policy considerations (Ryssday, 2008). These countries use the national service programs to conscript the youth and offer them military training compulsorily. They do this because it helps them stay alert and ready for any military attacks or acts of aggression from their enemies.
